Just picture this. You have just married the love of your life, and for the next seven months, life couldn’t have gone more according to plan. But then, tragedy strikes. Your significant other is suddenly put on life support as doctors tell you that there isn’t much hope.
It’s a tough story to imagine because its not something that we want to happen everyday. But for Danielle Davis, it’s the sad reality. She received a dreadful phone call on a sunny day in July 2011, where the doctor revealed to her that her true love, Matt, had been involved in a horrific motorcycle accident in Savannah, Georgia.
After three years of living on life support in a medically-induced coma and after thousands of prayers from his loving wife, Matt miraculously woke up one day and uttered two words to his loving wife that she’ll never forget. “I’m trying,” he said.
Matt was merging onto an interstate when he hit an illegally parked vehicle, which sent him flying off his motorcycle at a high velocity. He not only broke multiple bones, but he also lacerated organs and suffered heavy trauma in his brain.
Matt lay in the hospital bed, completely incapacitated and practically unconscious, but Danielle was always by his side. She prayed for him every day. When doctors told Danielle the devastating news that there was nothing else they could do to support Matt’s recovery, she was forced to face a life-changing choice: pull the plug or keep fighting. But Danielle later said that her decision was easy. “I knew that God could get us through that,” she said. “I didn’t think it was too big for God.”
They eventually moved Matt from the hospital to Danielle’s mother’s home in North Carolina. Here, they worked around the clock to treat and take care of Matt. Days, weeks, months, and years passed before that one unforgettable day when Matt finally awoke to the lovely sight of his beautiful, supportive wife.
Matt continues to make what doctors can only describe as “unprecedented” progress. Doctors didn’t even think this was originally possible! Thanks to her undying faith and belief in her husband and Matt’s own willpower and determination, the couple now have another shot at the life they always dreamed of together.
If this isn’t an example of what having faith and determination can accomplish, then I don’t know what is.
